Toppan is currently pursuing 5 different business fields, represented in the above diagram by the larger, outer spheres. Some of these fields merge into one another, but the result is 7 clearly defined business divisions, as represented by the smaller, inner spheres. Although some more obvious than others, each of these business divisions was born out of our skill and experience in letterpress printing.
Although we group them slightly differently, all 7 of these divisions are represented at Toppan UK, with staff from our parent company in Japan, from Toppan Cosmo Inc. (industrial materials) and our own local staff.
Undoubtedly the largest of our divisions in the UK, the Publications Printing Department is responsible for the sales and production management of high quality books and magazines, printed either at our plants in China and Japan, or through our European partners. We are the principal printer for renowned European publishers such as Dorling Kindersley and La Martiniere. In addition we offer a foreign rights service through which European titles are introduced to Japanese publishers and vice versa.
Although not currently as large as our Publications Printing business, we are looking to expand our activities in this area by both utilising the skills, experience and facilities of our parent company, and by furthering our partnerships with quality European printers. We have the capability to produce anything from business calendars, to exhibition banners, to point-of-purchase sales promotion materials. Please let us know your requirements.
With what seems like a global epidemic of credit card and identity fraud, Toppan is at the forefront of preventing such crime by producing passports, cards, IC chips and holograms with highly advanced security features. For the latest bank cards, Toppan has combined the convenience of contactless RFID with the security of biometrics to produce easy-to-use cards that cannot be used by anyone but the cardholder. However not all applications of our cards are so serious – we also produce IC “trading cards” for children’s games.
The fundamental concept governing Toppan’s creation of packaging is “FEEL”, an acronym for “Function”, “Environment”, “Effect” and “Lifestyle”. FEEL reflects our aim to create packaging that meets the requirements of both our customers and the actual consumers, as well as creating as little effect as possible on the environment. Our major market in Europe is for GL film – a film boasting superior barrier properties and the convenience of transparency.
Next time you walk through an airport terminal or buy a new kitchen for example, the chances are that the flooring, the work surfaces or the wood effect cupboards and furniture are a Toppan design.
