A semiconductor package is an outer shell which, when mounted on the printed circuit board, acts to protect the IC chip and provides connections to the external wiring. With the increased speed, complexity and functionality of LSI’s today, semiconductor packages also require yet more advanced functionality, such as high humidity and heat resistance qualities offered by Toppan’s products. Toppan’s high quality etching technology, developed over many years, forms a base for the development and production of various products in this field such as lead frames and various BGA/CSP substrate semiconductor packages.
As a result of diverse demands such as the increase in LSI pins, the increase in speed to exceed GHz and the broadening of functionality, the semi-conductor package is also required to be ever more sophisticated. As well as its semiconductor packages, Toppan also manufactures and sells other products produced by metallic etching technology. EMI Shield (Mesh type) for Plasma Display Panel (PDP)
This product, one of various products using etching technology, serves as an electromagnetic wave shield for plasma display panels. Applying the mesh directly to the display removes the need for glass, resulting in lighter televisions. Moreover, Toppan has developed a unique blackening technology resulting in the ability to obtain richer blacks, and thus achieving higher contrast.
On-chip Colour Filters are required in order to colourise digital image sensors such as CCD and CMOS. These sensors are based on arrays of light-sensitive pixels which convert photons of light into an electric charge, but these elements alone do not produce a colour image. In order to achieve colour graphics, weapply Red-Green-Blue or Cyan-Majenta-Yellow-Green filters to the sensors which come in from our customers. As the Colour filters are applied directly to the surface of the sensor, they are called ‘On-chip Colour Filters’.
