Environmental Issues
As part of our commitment to the environment, we are constantly looking for ways in which we can;
a) reduce the amount of packaging necessary for a product and
b) make that packaging as environmentally friendly as possible.
As an example of this let us look at the Cartocan, produced in Japan by Toppan.
More than 30% of the materials used to make this product come from Japan and they include wood from forest thinning operations and lumber mill waste. Purchase of products using wood from forest thinning operations helps to fund the development of Japan’s forests. Because they use significant amounts of wood from forest thinning operations, the cartocan is being positioned as a product which benefit forests and much is expected of them. Together with some 30 companies including beverage and paper manufacturers, Toppan established the Conference for Spreading Paper Soft Drink Containers that Protect the Environment in April 2004. This organisation, working in collaboration with Japan’s Forestry Agency and other government agencies, is promoting greater demand and supply of Cartocans in a bid to help protect the environment and make Japan a better place.
We have also installed systems and processes for offering environmentally friendly products and services and obtained ISO 14001 certifications for our sales, planning, development, and design departments.
