Overview
It is likely that you already know the name Toppan Printing. We are a Japanese corporation with publications print facilities across the globe; Japan, China, Hong Kong and USA. Our factories in China, Hong Kong and New Jersey were established to provide Japanese quality printing at best price for the European and US publishing markets. Toppan is now one of the largest exporters of printed material from Asia to all compass points. To service this we have sales and production liaison offices, representing all our divisions in the US, Europe and Australia.
We are a Fortune 500 company with ISO accreditation in Japan and importantly in China - ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001, being the first for an Asian company outside of Japan. Our world leading environmental management activities have benchmarked Toppan in this region and we are committed to following our own audited ethical policy programme in China. We are proud of our principles and we believe these are becoming increasingly important considerations for our global client base.
 Our publications printing factories in Japan primarily service the Japanese domestic market, but many overseas customers –mostly US clients- elect to print there, in one of the highest quality printing sites in the world. Our network of publications printing plants in Japan provides a portfolio of printed products; sheet and web offset and roto gravure.  We also provide all forms of binding. Through the many years of experience in the search of excellence, Toppan accrued technical skills and professional wisdom that enabled it to extend its reach overseas by building new print centres for new markets further a field.
Hong Kong
Since its foundation in 1963, Toppan Printing Co., (H.K.) Ltd., has established itself as a leader in the Hong Kong and Southeast Asian printing industries. While using its publications printing in European and Australian markets as a base, the company is responding to the continually expanding needs for local magazine production in the ever-expanding Hong Kong economy. In September 1995, the company established a plant in Yuen Long to further expand its production capacity and respond to customer needs.

Quality Printing
Toppan Hong Kong is equipped with both sheet-fed and cutting-edge, high-speed offset web printing machinery which assures higher quality and faster delivery of glossy periodical publications, catalogues, books and other print media. Furthermore, the meticulous attention paid to extremely fine detail by our exceptionally experienced operators more than meets our customers’ expectations.
Binding
 Boasting one of the largest facilities in Southeast Asia and possessing several of the latest binding machines, we are a self-maintained, fully integrated company.
Quality Assurance
Quality assurance is extremely high on the agenda in Hong Kong, and thus our factory has received the following ISO standards: ISO14001:2004, ISO9001, and OHSAS 18001. Our quality management systems passed strict assessment and successfully gained certification issued by the world’s largest quality certification organisation SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance) in October 1995.
Shenzhen
 China has gained global attention as a nation with an extensive labour force and tremendous market potential. As with Hong Kong, Shenzhen, is attracting a great deal of foreign investment since its designation as a Special Economic Zone in 1980, establishing it as an open market economy.
Toppan Shenzhen was established in 1993 as a base for hardcover book production for European and Western markets. The Shenzhen factory now produces hardcovers, paperbacks and children’s books which are delivered to numerous countries around the world. In addition, various other printed products are exported to Japan such as greeting cards, notebooks, catalogues and calendars. Based on our paper printing technology, every effort is made to provide our customers with high quality products that satisfy their every requirement.

 Colour Management
We initiated our current Colour Management in 2001. It allows us to calibrate each element in the digital production chain to achieve accurate consistent colour across all devices. Using the colour management system, our cameras and scanners produce pictures that appear the same on the monitor, in proofing and on the printing press.

Quality Assurance
Toppan Shenzhen was awarded ISO9002 by Shenzhen Quality System Certification Centre (updated in 2000 to ISO 9001:2000), this was in addition to the ISO 9000 and ISO 9001 certificates already received. Furthermore, as part of our dedication to protect the global environment, we obtained ISO 14001 for environmental management systems in December 2003, which was updated in ISO 14001:2004 in 2004.
ICTI - The CARE Process
The CARE (Caring, Awareness, Responsible, Ethical) Process is the International Council of Toy Industries' (ICTI) program to promote ethical manufacturing in the form of fair labour treatment and employee health and safety. It's primary focus was in the toy industry supply chain in China, where
70% of the world's toy volume is manufactured, but recently this code has been adopted by Western book publishers to ensure their suppliers operate and uphold good environmental standards. Its intent is to provide a single, fair, thorough and consistent program to monitor a supplier's compliance with ICTI's Code of Business Practice. Toppan's Shenzhen plant is proud to be accredited by this program and uphold the standards required by it.
New Jersey
Toppan has had a presence in America since the mid sixties, however the Toppan America subsidiary was formally established in 1970. From just a sales office in the early days, Toppan America has grown and developed over 36 years into a Complete Print Services Company, encompassing pre-press services, commercial print services and digital print services.
In 2006, a complete book binding line was installed in the commercial printing plant in Somerset, and Toppan America is now producing hard cover books of the same quality as in Japan and China. The US manufacturing side was put into service primarily to provide our American customers with not only high quality, but just as importantly, short lead times.
 Pre-press
Pre-press work at Toppan America is almost completely digital, thus eliminating the need for conventional film and match-prints, and reducing pre-press production time.
 Printing:
Computerized control and careful monitoring are how we ensure quality and consistency. Selecting the press that is right for the client’s particular job is how we assure the utmost in cost-efficiency. To ensure consistent, measurable colour we employ closed loop colour control and spectrophotometer quality assurance.
Binding:
Toppan America’s binding and finishing are first-rate in every respect. Performed completely in-house, our advanced binding equipment enables us to die cut, fold, bind, drill, glue and shrink wrap. While our equally impressive finishing capabilities include overall or precise spot UV coating, film lamination, foil stamping and embossing.
Binding Turnaround (excluding Press):
8 days with an average 15 Signatures, 7500 – 10,000 books
Warehousing:
With over 80,000 square feet of warehousing Toppan America contains plenty of storage space. Literature storage is a courtesy service Toppan America extends on a space availability basis.
